Welcoming the students to his office, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, disclosed that LASTMA was a child of necessity at the time it was established on the 15th of July, 2000 by former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He added that the Agency was created mainly to ensure the free flow of traffic and also reduce accidents across the Lagos metropolis.
Oreagba stated that the operations of LASTMA are focused on the three E’s, namely: ‘Traffic Engineering’, ‘Traffic Enlightenment and Education’ and ‘Traffic Enforcement’.
He confirmed that deployment of the Traffic Management Solution (TMS) handheld devices and body-worn cameras to capture real-time picture evidence of traffic violators has improved traffic management and control across the State.
The General Manager enjoined the students to be good ambassadors of their respective families and shun all social vices that could derail them from concentrating on their education.
Acknowledging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has invested in constant training and retraining of LASTMA personnel to enhance service delivery, the General Manager that completion of the rail project along the Badagry axis, would ease the transportation burden of LASU students.
Earlier, Mr. Jide Adeleye, who spoke on behalf of the students, commended operatives of LASTMA for their prompt and effective management of traffic across the State.
