The Senate of the Lagos State University (LASU) has appointed the institution’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Damola Oke, as the acting vice-chancellor.
He was appointed at the varsity’s emergency Senate meeting on Monday.
Oke is expected to replace the outgoing vice-chancellor, Olanrewaju Fagbohun. Fagbohun’s tenure expires today, January 11, 2021.
Recall that the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had cancelled the previous process for the appointment of a new VC due to petitions arising from the selection procedure.
The governor further directed that a fresh process that would terminate in 45 days should commence immediately.
Fagbohun was also directed to convene an emergency Senate meeting for the purpose of appointing one of the deputy vice-chancellors, who is not a candidate in the cancelled selection process, as acting vice-chancellor from Monday, January 11, 2021.
Over 18 professors from about 10 universities reportedly applied for the job.
