Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State University (LASU) Center for Museum and African Heritage has hosted an event in commemoration of the International Museum Day 2024.
The event, which held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, was themed, “Museum for Education and Research.”
It welcomed dignataries, including the Elegbeda of Egbeda, Oba Hameed Omogoriola Orelope-Laka, Chairman of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Animashaun, Acting Director, Directorate of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship, LASU, Associate Professor Habeeb Sanni, and others.
The occasion served as a platform to underscore the pivotal role of museums in advancing education and research.
Attendees were treated to an engaging programme lineup featuring guided tours, interactive workshops, and thought-provoking panel discussions led by experts in the field.
Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to explore a diverse range of exhibitions showcasing the cultural heritage of Africa and beyond. From ancient artifacts to contemporary artworks, each display offered unique insights into the rich tapestry of human history and creativity.
In her address, the Chairman of Epe Local Government emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage as a means of fostering social cohesion and identity.
She commended the LASU Center for Museum and African Heritage for its commitment to promoting cultural understanding and intellectual inquiry.
Animashaun also highlighted the transformative power of museums in shaping people’s collective memory and identity.
Furthermore, she emphasised the need for continued investment in cultural institutions to ensure their vitality and relevance in the digital age.
Similarly, Associate Professor Sanni, a distinguished academic in attendance, noted the role of museums as dynamic spaces for lifelong learning and scholarly research.
He also stressed the importance of leveraging technology to make museum collections more accessible to a global audience.
As the event drew to a close, guests expressed their appreciation for the enriching experience and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting museums as vital hubs for education and research.
