Speaking at the flag-off event, the Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, emphasized the Lagos State Government’s resolve to transform its education sector through sustained capacity development.
“Before this, we concluded a 10-day Effective School Programme for 64 teachers and the second phase of School-Based Training for 1,818 teachers.
Both focused on innovative and learner-centred methodologies,” Dr. Shittu disclosed. “These initiatives underscore the strong collaboration between the Federal and State Governments in building a robust and responsive basic education system.”
One of the most notable highlights of the new training phase is the introduction of a comprehensive Jolly Phonics programme for 1,250 early grade teachers.
The phonics-based literacy training is designed to equip educators with practical skills in sound recognition, letter formation, word construction, and blending critical tools that lay the foundation for early reading and writing.
Addressing the teachers at the event, Dr. Shittu reiterated the state’s long-term commitment to their professional development.
“The Lagos State Government is fully committed to continuous teacher development as a pathway to improved learning outcomes,” he affirmed.
“We understand that teachers are the heart of our education system, and by empowering them, we are ultimately investing in the future of our children.”
