LASUBEB Wants Vocational Centres To Be More Proactive
Dr Saheed Ibikunle, Permanent Board Member, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), on Saturday urged proprietors of vocational centres to be more proactive in teaching with materials provided for their centres.
LASUBEB, under the leadership of Mr Wahab Alawiye-King, recently donated materials ranging from computers, sewing machines, generators, printers, cardboards, drawing sheets, to mention a few to 143 centres in Lagos.
Ibikunle who is the School Supporting Servicing Supervisor, expressed satisfaction with the actions of the state government in bringing materials to the various centres and described the move as a welcome development.

He said that the materials would go a long way in giving the trainees at the centres the right morale to further carry out their responsibilities and be more proactive in discharging their duties.
“Teachers should take care of the materials received in their centres. They should make the most use of the materials in the scheme of work already stipulated in the national curriculum.
“By this implication, we are saying that the T.H.E.M.E. agenda of the governor on Education and Technology is enforced from the grassroots level of education,’’ Ibikunle said.
In a related development, Dr Priscilla Okeke of Ikeja Local Government Vocational Centre for Home Economics, Art/Craft, noted that things were improving in the centre.
She said that the building was undergoing renovation and it was a great thing with LASUBEB providing materials like generating set and computer printer.
“We are happy about this development. It is coming at the right time for us because on our part, we are also working on renovation,” she said.
Similarly, Mrs Grace Babatunde from Ejigbo Local Government Home Economics Centre, said the state government had done well to supply them with the right materials.
She said although the centre was going through tough times in getting the students to be attentive and come to the class, but the materials showed the commitment by government.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank the governor for not turning his back on us. Indeed we at Ejigbo are facing a lot of challenges but with these materials, indeed our confidence is high.
“We will also continue to ask for more for the students to value education and their parents should also be supportive of them.
“We use this opportunity to call on well-wishers and the corporate world to come and support our initiatives because the vocational centres are doing well to get many youths off negative vices,” Babatunde said.
