The Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye in her address on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, Staff and Students of Lagos State University of Education warmly appreciated the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and his led administration for the continuous support giving to the University.
Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye said LASUED was not established simply to add to the number of universities dotting the higher education landscape of Nigeria but a citadel of knowledge created to meet a felt need for a university that will make a wholesome difference in addressing the education inequality among the citizens.
Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye while heartily congratulating the Three Thousand Three hundred matriculants who have been privileged to be offered admission to study various programmes in the historic Teachers University, said that the first set of students admitted into the membership of the unique and professional University, the citadel of learning, admonished them to be good ambassadors of the university and be passionate about their future.
According to her, the University is prepared to make their shoulders available for them to stand on and be able to see clearer, better and farther.
As students of the elegant institution, the development of all their potential to become the best they can be is one desire that will never be compromised.
Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye further stated that the university hopes to train them such that they can be capable of rising above circumstances as it is the obligation of the university is to help them discover, develop and deploy their talents to deal with challenges so as to add value to themselves, the society and world at large.
The Acting Vice Chancellor enjoined the students to be obedient to the office of the Vice-Chancellor, those in authority, and to be of good conduct throughout their stay in the University as contained in the oath taking by them on the matriculation ground as a breach of the oath will definitely attract sanctions.
She also admonished them to steer clear of cultism, hooliganism and other forms of social menace that may impugn the integrity of the young, promising institution, assuring them maximum security on all the campuses of the university.
Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye then emphasized that the distance between matriculation and convocation is quite wide, and it is important that students attend lectures regularly, promptly, and do all their assignments.
She further advised the students to ignore discordant views, shun deviant behaviours and disregard any vices that are inimical to the public good but make use of the knowledge they acquired during the just concluded orientation programme conducted across the campuses of the University.
