Eko Hot Blog reports that the Department of Theatre Arts of the Lagos State University of Education, LASUED, Oto/Ijanikin, on Thursday, held the Initiation Ceremony for its pioneer degree undergraduate students in the Oluremi Tinubu hall, Oto/Ijanikin, main Campus.
The well-attended ceremony was graced by some notable veteran actors and actresses in the country.
The initiation’s oath-taking session was co-conducted by Dr. Tunji Sotimirin from University of Lagos and Dr. Joke Muyiwa from Olabisi Onabanjo University.
In their address, they enjoined the students to be professional at all times, be punctual at lectures and be committed to their profession in order to attain greater heights in their chosen career.
The Chairman of the ceremony, Professor Tunji Azeez, in his remarks, warmly welcomed and congratulated the students for being among the pioneers of the university.
He said the students are at the right place to acquire theatre arts knowledge as LASUED will offer them the opportunity to unleash the talent in them and maximise it to their full advantage in order for them to become professional actors in the future.
According to Professor Azeez, the university has been doing a phenomenal job since the time it was a college of education.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Afolabi Momodu Ashafa, the Aladi of Ijanikin Kingdom, represented by Chief Akanbi Isa Sanni, the Oosa of Ijanikin kingdom; in his remarks specially congratulated the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye on her recent pronouncement as the Substantive Vice Chancellor of the university.
The Kabiyesi also congratulated the LASUED management on the transmutation of the institution to a university, saying he was delighted with the performance of the theatre arts students.
He noted that the university had been a standout household among tertiary institutions in the country and lauded the management team led by Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye for continually making the university one of the best in the country.
The monarch implored parents and guardians to monitor and guide the activities of their children/wards against all forms of social and election vices during the upcoming general election in order for them to be useful for themselves and country at large.
The Acting Dean, College of Humanities Dr. Femi Adedina, in his closing remarks appreciated God for the success of the ceremony and thanked other dignitaries and parents for making the ceremony a success.
He added that the college would continue to impact lives positively.
