The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has achieved a significant milestone in its pursuit of providing exceptional patient care.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the recent inauguration of the Patient Attendants’ Quarters marks an important step in improving the hospital’s infrastructure and enhancing the overall patient experience.
The facility is designed to offer a comfortable and convenient resting space for the relatives of patients admitted to the hospital, allowing them to stay close to their loved ones during their medical treatment
In his address Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of LASUTH, highlighted the significance of this facility as the first of its kind in Nigeria’s public healthcare sector.
He shared that although the concept had been in development for a considerable time, an earlier attempt to implement it through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model did not materialize.
However, thanks to the Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA’s proposal and donation, the initiative eventually became a reality.
Despite being previously commissioned by the Rotary Club, the facility only commenced operations about 10 days prior to its official launch due to finalization of operational arrangements.
During this period, the Patient Attendants’ Quarters has already witnessed impressive patronage.
The CMD emphasized that the initiative stemmed from LASUTH’s dedication to providing patient-centered care, ensuring a comfortable environment for patient attendants. No longer would they have to resort to sleeping in cars or facing exposure to mosquitoes.
Mrs. Ogochukwu Caroline Chukwurah, the Facility Manager, provided an overview of the quarters, describing it as a 26-bed facility with separate wings for male and female occupants, each accommodating 13 individuals.
The facility has been designed to maintain a clean, comfortable, and conducive environment for patient attendants to rest, refresh, and stay near their loved ones without unnecessary strain.
Mrs. Chukwurah extended her appreciation to Prof. Fabamwo, his team, and all stakeholders involved in making this project possible.
She hailed the Patient Attendants’ Quarters as a testament to LASUTH’s commitment to holistic patient care and improved hospital infrastructure, setting a precedent for other healthcare institutions to follow.
Speaking on behalf of Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Mrs. Sarah Balogun commended Prof. Fabamwo’s leadership and efficient resource management.
She emphasized the importance of regular assessments to maintain and enhance the facility’s operations.
Dr. Oluwatoni Adeyemi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, praised LASUTH’s rapid transformation, noting the management’s dedication to progress.
She cited the Patient Attendants’ Quarters as an example of the hospital’s forward-thinking approach to inclusive healthcare.
Representing the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, the Director of Medical Administration, Training & Programmes at the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Mazeedat Erinosho, congratulated LASUTH’s management on their achievement and other infrastructural developments.
In attendance were members of LASUTH’s top management committee, including Mr. Babatunde Jelili Oyekan, Director of Hospital Administration & Human Resources; Mrs. Titilope Alaka, Director of Finance & Accounts; and Mrs. Adebola Aina, Director of Nursing Services, alongside heads of clinical and non-clinical departments and units.
