EDITOR’S PICK:

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Prince (Dr.) Ifalade Oyekan, the general manager of the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency (LNSA), has hinted that a cooperation with the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) may soon be formed to supplement the efforts of other security organizations policing the State’s waterways.

Oyekan spoke as he greeted Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, General Manager of LASWA, who was paying the Agency a courtesy visit at the Safety Arena Complex office in Bolade, Oshodi. He described the partnership between the two State agencies as a positive development.

Prince Oyekan lamented the excessive frequency of illegal activities being committed on Lagos waterways, including crude oil theft, drug dealing, and kidnapping among others, and emphasized that LNSA will collaborate closely with LASWA to offer additional protection on Lagos Waterways.

In his words: “The request of LASWA at this critical time is a welcome development. Just like LASWA, LAMATA had equally requested collaboration with the agency. LAMATA wants LNSA officers to be on board their bus and train services to provide security for the passengers”.

The General Manager maintained that the partnership with LASWA would berth new ideas in intelligence gathering by LNSA and go a long way in strengthening the security situation on Lagos waterways.

He thanked LASWA’s delegation for the visit and acknowledged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s support of the Agency, stressing that the State Government’s backing made LNSA accomplish significant success.

Earlier, the General Manager of LASWA, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, commended LNSA for its ongoing rebranding, stating that safety and security are important to the socio-economic development of the State.

He expressed belief in collaboration with the Agency, stressing that partnering with LNSA will be beneficial to LASWA, particularly in the area of intelligence gathering, investigation and mitigation.

Speaking further, Emmanuel informed his host about the existence of its Waterways Guards and other security operatives on the Lagos waterways, noting, however, that there is a need for LNSA officers to be stationed at jetties and on boats for monitoring and enhanced security on the waterways.

Prince Oyekan gave an assurance that the State Waterways will be safer with the newly established Marine Corps of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency, just as he expressed his gratitude to Mr. Governor for his vision and magnanimity towards the institution.
