Late Bibiana Odutuga, First Nigerian Nurse Sent To US For Family Planning Training Buried in Epe (Video)

  • Late Bibiana Odutuga the first Nigerian nurse sent to America for family planning training was buried in Epe

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the body of Late Bibiana Odutuga, the first Nigerian Nurse sent to the United States of America to learn all about family planning, was buried on Friday 8th of October at her country home, Odomola, Epe Local Government of Lagos State.

This online media platform learnt that Mrs Bibiana died 22nd of August, at the age of 88 years and was buried in accordance with Christian rite.

The carnival-like ceremony was a three-day celebration of the life of the departed Mama Babiana which commenced on Wednesday, 6th of October, 2021 with a Wake Keep and Service of Songs at Ijaye Low-Cost Housing Estate.

Thursday, 7th of October her body was taken to her home town where the lying-in-state was conducted at 8, Digboloye Street, Odomola Epe and Friday, 8th of October saw the Burial Service at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ibowon, Epe.

The reception was held at the field after the Lamb Industry in Odomola Epe.

The service was conducted by, Rev. Fr. Michael Onwudiegwu and Catechist Ifeanyi Onyeguli of the Roman Catholic Church began with the rendition of the hymn “I Need Thee” which was rendered by the entire congregation and the Catechist admonished all to live in love so that they can be remembered for Good like the departed.

While The burial service, anchored by Immaculate Conception Catholic Church was attended by family, friends, well-wishers and residents within Epe and every part of the country.

Highlights of the event include recitation from the Holy Bible, prayer for the deceased, brief biography of the deceased, a lecture, service of songs, fuji display, stage drama and prayers for the family and friends.

Extolling the admirable qualities of the deceased, one of the deceased daughters Mrs Opeoluwa Balogun (Nee) Odutuga, described late Bibiana as a tolerant and accommodating mother who got along with everyone.

She prayed to God to grant her and other family members the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

“Chief Mrs Odutuga, mama Abiye of Odomola in Epe, as fondly called was my mother and a great mother for that matter. My mum was loved by everyone; an expert in her profession, kind-hearted and generous. She was hospitable, caring and more importantly a peace-loving woman.

“My mum was everything to us, she trained us in the way of the Lord at our early age and we walked in that part till this very moment. My mum was a great prayer warrior who served God even until her death,” She recounted.

Similarly, Mrs Moshebolatan Osundonire, mama’s church member said Bibiana was a different kind of mother who related freely with everyone regardless of age ethnicity or social status.

John Odutuga, mama’s son regretted the sad loss of a dear friend and a bosom crony but took firm solace in the fact that the deceased lived a fulfilled life worthy of emulation.

He prayed to God to comfort his family in these harrowing days.

He said, “My mum was my everything. I could go on and on to discuss the testimonies of those that have encountered my mum’s generosity in one way or the other.

“She was the first woman to bring family planning into Mushin after being one of the nurses sent to the US to study about family planning, and through her skills and ability, she has been able to save thousands of mothers and children in different parts of the state, especially those around her.”

Mrs Victoria David (nee) Odutuga, mama’s daughter reiterated late Bibiana’s kindheartedness and capacity to accommodate people.

She also expressed gratitude to the multitude of family, friends and colleagues who turned out to pay their final respects to the mother who is loved by all.

“If only wishes were horses, I would wish that my mum came back to life. She was everything to us, and right now I miss her much. But I pray that she continues to rest in the bosom of the Lord,” she said.
