LAUTECH Professor Slumps, Dies In Oyo (Photo)
- A LAUTECH professor has slumped and died in Oyo.
EKOHOTBLOG reports that a professor at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Abass Olajire, has slumped and died.
It was gathered that the Professor of Industrial/Environmental Chemistry, aged 59, slumped while observing Juma’at prayer on Friday.
Olajire was later confirmed dead at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso.
As gathered by EKOHOTBLOG, the tragic incident was confirmed by the LAUTECH Public Relations Officer, Lekan Fadeyi, saying, “The University Management is devastated at the sudden death of Abass Abiola Olajire, a renowned researcher and erudite Prof. of Industrial/Environmental Chemistry, whose research interest was in Petroleum Chemistry and Green synthesis of Nanoparticles/Application.
“Acting Vice-Chancellor, LAUTECH, Prof. Mojeed Olaide Liasu, who became perplexed at the receipt of the sad news, said Prof. Abass was a shining star in the institution and described his passage as a big blow.”
Family sources, however, added that the late professor will be buried in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Saturday according to Islamic rites.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that Abass Olajire was recently listed among the top scholars in the world, according to a ranking released by Elsevier B. V (Netherlands) and a team of researchers led by Prof. John P.A. from Stanford University, United States.
He was ranked 128th of 66,925 of the top world scientists in the world in March 2021.
The late professor was a recipient of the Best Lecturer award by the LAUTECH branch of National Association Mathematics Students in 1994.
Late Abass Olajire was a member of the Nigerian Association Petroleum Explorationists, Chemical Society Nigeria, Oluyole Club, New York Academy of Sciences, and Chemical Society Nigeria.
