Eko Hot Blog reports that, in a move to tackle environmental pollution and safeguard public health, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has launched a crackdown on illegal cart pushers in FESTAC Town, Amuwo Odofin.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Lagos State, LAWMA’s monitoring and enforcement team carried out the operation in the early morning hours.
The team targeted cart pushers who collect refuse and waste from residents and market traders in the area, only to dump it illegally by the roadside, walkway, and median, leading to environmental pollution and potential harm to human health.
During the operation, two obstinate cart pushers were apprehended, and a total of 30 carts were seized by the LAWMA team.
This crackdown on illegal waste dumping is part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment for its citizens.
