Eko Hot Blog reports that the educational arm of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA Academy, has successfully reached out to more than 4,258 pupils in various public schools across the state through its school enlightenment and advocacy program initiated last month.
The Managing Director and CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, announced this significant milestone following the visitation of the school advocacy team to institutions in Eti-Osa.
Represented by Mrs. Bola Adewunmi, the Director of LAWMA Academy, Gbadegesin emphasized the program’s objective, which is to instill waste management education in children to promote environmental sustainability.
According to Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, “Equipping young minds with the knowledge and skills to champion environmental sustainability is crucial. Through LAWMA Academy, we are engaging future generations to actively participate in responsible waste management, fostering positive change within their communities.”
The initiative employs interactive sessions, educational materials, and engaging activities to educate pupils on crucial aspects of waste management, such as segregation, recycling, composting, and the significance of maintaining a clean environment.
Gbadegesin highlighted the importance of integrating environmental education into school curricula, asserting that LAWMA Academy’s program provides valuable resources and instills a sense of responsibility among students. This, in turn, transforms them into active contributors to a cleaner and healthier Lagos.
LAWMA Academy, an initiative of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), stands dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and education.
By targeting the younger generation, the academy aims to cultivate responsible waste management practices for a cleaner and healthier Lagos City.
