LAWMA gets recycling facility
The Lagos State Government has acquired and commissioned a briquette-making facility, donated by the Ecological Fund Office(EFO), for waste recycling.
Receiving the facility, Lagos Waste Management Authority(LAWMA) Consultant on Business Development, Mr. Bode Fanimo affirmed the commitment of the agency to making judicious use of the facility by providing solution for agro-forestry waste.
Fanimo, who was accompanied by the recycling team of the authority and other members of staff, was particularly impressed with Ecological Fund Office’s efforts and their steadfastness in promoting environmental sustainability.
He emphasised that briquettes were non-polluting, economical, eco-friendly and had high burning efficiency, pointing out that the materials could be used as a substitute for fossil fuels and for thermal applications.
The consultant further said the facility would be beneficial to the community as “it conserves natural resources and also prevents global warming which has a direct adverse impact on global climate.”
Fanimo reiterated that the Lagos State Government is committed to its new waste management strategy on Circular Economy which is expected to evoke innovative actions in job creation for youths and waste management investors.
He also affirmed that the briquetting facility would be replicated in other parts of the state.
The Chief Executive Officer of Pericom Nigeria Limited, Mr. Ayo Ojeleye, the Environmental Engineering Company which built the machine, appreciated the state government for giving the company the opportunity to make impact in saving the environment.
