The business partner with CIWN is the product of the partnership between LAWMA Academy and SafeEnviro, an environmental consulting firm, based in London.

Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Mr Ibrahim Odumboni, who disclosed this in his office, at Ijora, noted that the partnership was approved by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

Odumboni added that the development would create an opportunity for interested persons, to run professional certification courses in waste management and related disciplines.

He said, “It is gratifying for the Agency to have this partnership at this time approved by the Governor, to open up opportunities for individual scholarship, as well as investment opportunities and wealth creation in waste management to add value to the waste management sector of Lagos State”.

He noted this would also instil best practices in waste management, which would ultimately bring forth a cleaner environment that will guarantee good health and promote environmental sustainability, adding that interested persons can run their courses and become chartered.

Odumboni stated further that the collaboration between LAWMA Academy and SafeEnviro UK would help build change agents for a sustainable environment in the state and beyond, urging residents to take advantage of this and be certified, as certificates would be issued at the end of the course.

He called on those interested in relevant courses to visit LAWMA Academy’s website, www.lawmaacademy.com, for registration and inquiries, adding that while most of the courses are free, others attract fees.

Meanwhile, Odumboni, in a statement, on Thursday, had said that the two-day closure of the Olusosun dumpsite was necessary to decongest and prepare the site in anticipation of more waste that might be generated during the yuletide.

According to him, December would witness more influx of trucks due to the volume of waste that would be generated during the period and 70 per cent of waste generated in Lagos is deposited at Olusosun.

He noted that the authority is working at ensuring that 10 trucks can tip at once, as turnaround time was crucial for waste management and the tipping platform has to be very stable, so that waste disposal does not take more than 10 minutes.

Odumboni said that the same maintenance work carried out at the Olusosun dumpsite would be extended to other dumping sites across the metropolis starting from Solous, Igando, which will be shut down for days for the same reason.

He appealed to Lagosians, especially residents living around the affected areas, to bear with the authority, adding that any inconveniences arising from ongoing maintenance in the dumpsite are for the good of the masses and for better service delivery.
