A member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Honourable Chijioke Chukwu, is currently at war with his wife and on Thursday, August 1, begged a Customary Court sitting in Jikwoyi, Abuja, not to grant the estranged wife, Cynthia, custody of their two children, saying “she is a drunk.”
Chukwu made the allegations while defending himself in the divorce suit filed by the woman.
According to Chukwu: “The petitioner is a drunk, she stocks the refrigerator with hot drinks and drinks herself to stupor.
“A friend of mine who is a pastor in Living Faith Church came to visit me and met her drunk. He knelt down before her and begged her to stop drinking and getting herself drunk.
“He told her that it was not proper for a married woman to always get herself drunk. I beg the court not to grant her custody of the children,” he prayed.
He also told the court that his wife does not have the capacity to care for the children.
“My wife’s salary is just N150,000 and so, she can not afford a comfortable apartment for my kids.
“She said after she has divorced me, she will immediately remarry, hence, I cannot rent an apartment for her and her new husband,” he said.
The judge, Everyman Eleanya, adjourned the case till August 6 for continuation of defence.
