N3 Billion Fraud Labour Ministry
A recent report by Nigeria’s leading parliamentary monitoring organization, OrderPaper, revealed that 164 lawmakers in the 10th National Assembly, including 15 Senators and 149 House of Representatives members, have not sponsored any bills since its inauguration on June 13, 2023.
The report highlighted that 62% of these inactive lawmakers in the House are first-timers and raised concerns over the slow legislative process, with a significant portion of bills recycled from previous Assemblies.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in the Senate, over 50% of the bills submitted were carried over, while nearly a third in the House of Representatives were also recycled, reflecting stagnation in bill processing.
Oke Epia, Founder and Executive Director of OrderPaper, noted the slow progression and emphasized the need for quality lawmaking that addresses national challenges, while Program Executive Joy Erurane pointed to a lack of focus on critical areas such as agriculture, food security, and security.
Lawmakers National Assembly Bills
The Senate introduced 475 bills, passing only 19, with 416 still awaiting second reading, while the House introduced 1,175 bills, passing 58, with 967 pending.
OrderPaper called on Nigerian citizens to demand greater accountability from their lawmakers, as the report questioned the effectiveness of the 10th Assembly’s legislative activities and their commitment to impactful lawmaking.
