Lee Carsley has been appointed as the interim manager of the England men’s football team following Gareth Southgate’s departure after England’s Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Carsley, in a statement expressed his honor in stepping up to lead the squad, noting his familiarity with the players and the cycle of international football.
“It makes sense for me to guide the team while The FA continues the process of recruiting a new manager. My main priority is to ensure continuity, and our goal is to secure promotion in the UEFA Nations League,” he said.
The 50-year-old will lead England in their September matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland, with the FA confirming that he will remain in the role “while the recruitment process for a new permanent head coach continues.”
Carsley is set to name his first England squad on 29 August.
Birmingham-born Carsley, who represented Ireland as a player, has built a respected coaching career and recently led England’s Under-21 team to victory in the 2023 U21 European Championship.
