The first pilot to break the sound barrier, Chuck Yeager, has died at the age of 97. He was an American Air Force pilot who retired as a Brigadier General.
His second wife, Victoria, announced his death in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday.
The widow stated that her husband lived a fulfilled life and left behind a legacy of strength and patriotism.
“Fr @VictoriaYeage11 It is w/ profound sorrow, I must tell you that my life love General Chuck Yeager passed just before 9pm ET. An incredible life well lived, America’s greatest Pilot, & a legacy of strength, adventure, & patriotism will be remembered forever,” Victoria wrote in the tweet.
