Leicester City have appointed former PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new head coach.
The Dutchman takes over from Steve Cooper, who was dismissed last weekend after overseeing just 12 Premier League matches with the Foxes.
Van Nistelrooy has signed a contract that will keep him at the King Power Stadium until June 2027.

His appointment comes two weeks after he stepped down from his role as interim head coach at Manchester United, following the arrival of Ruben Amorim.
“I’m proud, I’m excited,” Van Nistelrooy, 48, said.
“Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City is enthusiastic. They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the club, the supporters and, of course, the recent history of the club is impressive.
“I’m excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the football club.”
Leicester City currently sit 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone, and will travel to Brentford on Saturday.
In the meantime, first-team coach Ben Dawson will take charge of the team in West London, before Ruud van Nistelrooy leads the Foxes for the first time in a home match against West Ham on December 3.
During his brief four-game stint as interim head coach at Manchester United, van Nistelrooy secured three wins and one draw, including two victories over Leicester in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.
Van Nistelrooy’s only previous senior managerial role was at his former club, PSV Eindhoven, where he guided them to second place in the Eredivisie in the 2022-23 season. He left PSV before the end of that campaign, citing a “lack of support within the club.”
After a year out of management, Van Nistelrooy joined Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff at Manchester United in the summer, having also held discussions with Burnley about potentially replacing Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor following the end of last season.
Van Nistelrooy stated that United was the only club he would have considered joining in an assistant manager’s role, reflecting on his five-year spell at Old Trafford, where he scored 150 goals in 219 appearances before moving to Real Madrid in 2006.
Steve Cooper was dismissed after just 157 days in charge at Leicester.
