Leicester Win Appeal Against Alleged Breach Of Premier League PSR

Leicester City have successfully overturned a decision that could have resulted in a points deduction for an alleged violation of Premier League Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules.

An independent panel ruled that the Premier League lacked the authority to penalize the club.

The Premier League expressed its “surprise and disappointment” at the panel’s decision. Leicester City defended its position, stating that it had “simply sought to ensure that the rules are applied as they are actually written.”

The Premier League had initially charged Leicester for breaching spending rules, but the club contested the charge.

An independent commission later determined that the Premier League could impose sanctions. However, Leicester appealed this ruling, arguing that the charges were issued while they were still in the English Football League (EFL), not the Premier League.

The appeal’s outcome, announced on Tuesday, favoured Leicester.

Under PSR regulations, clubs are prohibited from losing more than £105 million over a three-season period.

The charges against Leicester pertained to the three-year span ending with the 2022-23 season.

However, Leicester was relegated to the Championship at the conclusion of that season and only submitted its financial accounts after leaving the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest and Everton both faced points deductions last season after being found in breach of PSR rules.
