Jeremie Frimpong had initially put the hosts ahead in the first half, deftly skipping past defender El Chadaille Bitshiabu and slotting the ball past goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi at the near post.
Xabi Alonso’s side extended their lead just six minutes later when Alex Grimaldo tapped in a pass from Florian Wirtz from close range. However, former Leverkusen midfielder Kevin Kampl cut the deficit with a header from Benjamin Henrichs’ cross during first-half stoppage time.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Openda leveled the score by converting Benjamin Sesko’s pass from a tight angle, and he later delivered the decisive goal with 10 minutes left on the clock.
Leipzig’s manager, Marco Rose, was sent off midway through the first half after a heated exchange with referee Matthias Jollenbeck, following a challenge by Jonathan Tah on Openda.
