Lekki Massacre: Pope Francis Implores Catholic Members To Pray For Nigeria

One of the world’s highly revered and influential religious leader, Pope Francis, has called on members of the Roman Catholic Church to put Nigeria in their prayers.

Pope Francis made the call during Sunday’s sermon at the Vatican.

Pope Francis stressed the need to pray for Nigeria so that violence could be avoided in the quest for social cohesion and unity.

“Let us pray to the Lord for Nigeria, so that every form of violence might always be avoided, in the constant search of social harmony through the promotion of justice and the common good,” Pope Francis said

His comments were also tweeted Sunday afternoon.

The papacy call for Solidarity with nigeriy is coming five days after men believed to be soldiers opened fire on peaceful protesters at Lekki tollgate, killing  at least nine civilians.

The protesters were demanding an end to police brutality, a campaign which received worldwide support. No one has been held responsible for the killings.

President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to publicly acknowledge the military attack on protesters in Lagos, but called for cessation of looting, killing and vandalism nationwide.
