Leverage On Technology For Learning – Sanwo-Olu’s Wife Urges Youths

The wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday urged Nigerian youths to leverage technology to enhance their learning process.

Sanwo-Olu gave the advice at the grand finale of Ikorodu Division’s Second Edition of Inter-School Debate Competition for public secondary schools in the area.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that 16 public secondary schools participated in the three-week-long competition.

The competition was organised by Ikorodu Local Government in collaboration with Kaodwad and Associates, Sen. Tokunbo Abiru (Lagos- East), Rep. Babajimi Benson, and Mr Gbolahan Ogunleye, member, Lagos House of Assembly.

Sanwo-Olu said that leveraging technology to improve teaching and learning process was an important tool in the education process.

“It is essential and critical to protect the future of our children and young people.

“It is a competitive world, so we have to give them the basic tools, to make them compete with children all over the world,” she said.

She urged stakeholders to begin to passionately advocate for the kind of education that would prepare the students to be academically excellent.

According to her, the youths must be guided to discover themselves and acquire the right skills to be competitive in various sectors and be champions globally, making their parents and Nigeria proud.

“This will further fulfil our ambition of raising young individuals and quality leaders.

“Quality leaders that will guarantee a greater future for Lagos state and our country Nigeria,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Earlier in his remarks, Mr Wasiu Adesina, Ikorodu Local Government Chairman, said the debate was an initiative designed to sharpen the reasoning, eloquence, and critical thinking of students.

Adesina said that the competition was a broader vision to create a culture of academic excellence in the public schools.

” We are equipping them with skills needed to engage with the world confidently and effectively.

“Today’s grand finale marks the culmination of months of rigorous engagement, where our pupils demonstrated their brilliance and potential.

“I am incredibly proud of each participant and I salute their courage and dedication to learning.

“I believe that the knowledge and confidence gained from this exercise will serve them well as they navigate their academic journey and future careers,” he said.

The chairman said that the winner of the competition was going home with a cash gift of N500,000 and a laptop, the first runner-up N300,000 and a laptop, while the second runner-up would get N200,000 and a laptop.

Earlier in his address, Oba Kabir Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, urged the students not to deal in hard drugs, to avoid cultism, and shun social vices.

He urged parents and guardians to always add value to their children.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Elepe Senior Grammar School emerged winner with a score of 76.3; Government Senior Model College, first runner-up with 74.1; and Ipakodo Senior Secondary School was second runner-up with 70.0 points.

Miss Grace Onah, who led Elepe Grammar School to the debate, thanked Mrs Sanwo-Olu and the council boss for initiating the programme.

She said that the competition gave the students the opportunity to showcase their talents.
