Lewandowski hits double as Bayern pound Dortmund 5-0
A match expected to be a major decider in the 2018/2019 season in Bundelisga turned out to be one of the most one-sided affairs in recent time as Bayern Munich hit four first-half goals and another in the second half to go a point clear in the Bundesliga.
The contest saw Robert Lewandowski netting his 200th and 201st Bundesliga goals as Bayern Munich roared back to the top of the Bundesliga with a 5-0 mauling of Borussia Dortmund, their main rivals for the Bundelisga title.
Lucien Favre’s side arrived at Allianz Arena home of Bayern Munich with a two-point lead at the top of the table but the momentum behind their title bid was ripped away in a devastating first-half performance by the hosts.
Mats Hummels made the first incision with a commanding header and Lewandowski, another former Dortmund star, reached his scoring milestone with a superb solo effort seven minutes later.
After two further goals by Javi Martinez and Serge Gnabry, Poland international, Lewandowski, completed the rout in the 89th minute.
On the sidelines of a commanding performance by his team, Lewandowski also became the first non-German player to notch 200 Bundesliga goals by seizing on Dan Axel-Zagadou’s turnover, allowing him to dink the ball over onrushing Roman Burki before volleying into an empty net.
He added another in the second half, leaving Bayern brimming with confidence with a few matches to go in the Bundelisga run-in.
