Like Twitter, Facebook Pulls Down Buhari’s Civil War Post
- “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War,”
Social Media giant, Facebook, has deleted President Muhammadu Buhari post wherein he threatened to give those agitating for secession the civil war treatment.
Although it is unclear the exact time the post was yanked off, the development follows outrage by Nigerians after the offensive post by Mr Buhari.
The president, in a post also shared on Twitter, vowed that “those misbehaving” would “soon have the shock of their lives,” while referencing his role during the 1967 Biafra war where over a million people were grisly murdered.
“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War,” his now-deleted post said. “Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

The tweet was greeted with outrage and castigation, with many wondering why such hard line and threat was not directed at Boko Haram and bandits wreaking havoc in the country. Many also reported the tweet and asked Twitter to suspend the president’s account.
Following the uproar and widespread condemnation, Twitter deleted the message on Wednesday.
Although Facebook did not release any official statement regarding the post, observations by Ekohotblog showed that the post has been removed.
