Like US, UK Warns Of Increased Risk Of Terror Attacks In Abuja

The UK has followed the US in issuing a security alert about the increased risk of terror attacks in Abuja.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the United Kingdom (UK) has updated its terrorism alert to citizens in Nigeria, warning of an increased threat of terrorist attacks in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The alert was updated on the British High Commission’s website on Sunday.

It advised UK citizens in Nigeria to stay alert, “consider movements carefully, follow the local news and the advice of security authorities”.

The advisory also warned against visits to markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, football viewing centres, displacement camps, transport terminals (including train networks), government buildings — and schools.

Meanwhile, the UK’s commission in Abuja has restricted entry to non-critical staff.

It disclosed that only critical staff will be allowed access to its facility on Monday, October 24.

The development comes on the heels of the United States (US) warning to its citizens about “an elevated risk of terror attacks” in the FCT.

Eko Hot Blog had earlier reported that the US issued a similar security alert.

The latest advisories occur about a week after the Australian embassy had advised its citizens not to travel to Nigeria.

In a Wednesday travel advisory, the Australian Embassy listed flooding, terrorism and kidnapping as some of the reasons for the advisory.
