In Nigeria, there are lots of secondary schools that existed long before Nigeria gained independence in 1960.

(1.) CMS Grammar School
The Church Missionary Society established the first secondary school in Nigeria in June 1859. The school was called CMS Grammar School.
(2.) Methodist Boys High School, located in Victoria Island, Lagos state Nigeria was established in the year 1878
(3.) Methodist Girls High School, located in Yaba, Lagos state Nigeria was established in 1879.
(4.) Baptist Academy, located in Obanikoro, Lagos state, was established in 1885. The primary school arm was established in 1855 but was now changed into a secondary school.
(5.) Hope Waddell Training Institute, located in Calabar, Cross River state, was established in 1895.
(6.) St. Anne’s School (Old Kudeti Girls’ School) was established in Ibadan in 1896.
(7.) Oron Boy’s High School (Old Oron Training Institute), located in Oron, was established in 1897.
(8.) Wesley College of Science (old Wesley College), Elekuro, Ibadan, was established in Nigeria in 1905.
(9.) St. Paul’s College, Iyenu, located in Awka, was established in 1900.

(12.) King’s College, Catholic Mission Street, located in Lagos state, was established in 1909.
(13.) St. John’s School, Bida, was established in 1909.
(14.) Alhuda-Huda College (Old Government Secondary School), Zaria, was established in 1910.
(15.) Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode was established on the 12th of January in the year 1913
(16.) Eko Boys High School, Mushin, Lagos state, was established on the 13th of January in 1913.
(17.) Ibadan Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan, was established in March 1913.
(18.) Government Secondary School, Ilorin, Kwara state, was established in 1914.
(19.) Government College, Katsina-Ala, Benue state, was established 1915 by the Nigerian government.
