EKO HOT BLOG reports that Liverpool are in talks to sign Ajax winger Antony ahead of Manchester United, according to reports in Brazil.
Erik ten Hag has urged United’s hierarchy to make a move for the Brazilian midfielder this summer but so far the club have been unable to reach an agreement with Ajax.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have already signed Darwin Nunez in a £85m deal from Benfica this summer but are still looking to strengthen following the departure of Sadio Mane, who moved to Bayern Munich.
It’s understood that Ajax are demanding a £69 million fee for Antony off the back of his impressive performances under Ten Hag over the last two seasons and United are unwilling to meet the Dutch club’s valuation.
According to Yahoo Esportes, Liverpool have held discussions with both Ajax and Antony’s agent over a potential deal this summer.
The report claims that Liverpool’s interest is ‘strong’ and a bid of £59m could be enough to reach an agreement with Ajax.
Earlier this month, United branded reports that they submitted a £51m offer for Antony as ‘nonsense’.
It’s understood that the winger is keen on being reunited with Ten Hag at United, but Ajax have the upper hand as they have already sold Sebastien Haller to Borussia Dortmund and Ryan Gravenberch to Bayern Munich, which has put them in a strong financial position.

United, however, have convinced Ajax to sell Lisandro Martinez and a £46m deal has now been agreed for the Argentina international.
Martinez was also wanted by Arsenal but the defender made it clear that his preference is to join United.
