Liverpool’s Nunez Banned For Five-Match Over Copa America incidents

Liverpool’s Uruguayan striker, Darwin Nunez has been handed a five-match ban and fined by South American football governing body CONMEBOL for his involvement in a mass brawl during the Copa America semi-final.

The investigation into the altercation at the end of the Uruguay vs. Colombia match in Charlotte resulted in suspensions for four other players, with a total of 11 sanctions issued.

Nunez was one of the players who entered the stands at the Bank of America Stadium and exchanged punches with fans during the chaotic conclusion to the game.

His punishment was the harshest, with others receiving bans of four matches or fewer, along with fines.

Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur was banned for four matches, while defenders Mathias Olivera, Ronald Araujo, and Jose Maria Gimenez were each suspended for three matches.
