Officers of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Eredo Command, have apprehended three students and one adult in connection with a case of theft and aiding and abetting at the Government Technical College, Odomola, Epe.

Ekohotblog gathers that the arrest was made following a distress call from the school’s principal, Dr. Wole Ajifowoke, who reported suspicious activity involving some students found with dismantled pieces of iron on school premises.

The suspects — Sunday Kingsley (17), Sansaliu Babatunde (18), and Olowu Adamo (22) — all from the Motor Vehicle Mechanic Department, reportedly confessed to stealing three iron chairs, dismantling them, and planning to sell the parts to local scrap collectors popularly known as “bollar.”

Further investigation revealed the students were involved in a prior theft incident in March 2025, where they allegedly stole mechanical clamps from their department.

The stolen items were said to have been handed over to a 48-year-old man, Shakiru Yusuf, who resides at 25 Adeyanju Street, Epe.

Upon a follow-up, LNSC officers visited Yusuf’s residence. He admitted to receiving the clamps and keeping them without informing the school authorities. He claimed the students had offered to sell the items for N10,000.

“We are dealing with a disturbing trend where students are increasingly getting involved in criminal acts that threaten the integrity and safety of our academic institutions,” said the LNSC Eredo Commanding Officer, who confirmed that the recovered clamps have been retrieved and documented as evidence.

The school principal, Dr. Ajifowoke, who visited the LNSC office for clarification, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation within the college.

“Over the past few months, we’ve lost school property worth millions of naira to theft and burglary. It’s disheartening that students who should be learning are becoming agents of destruction,” he said.

In a surprising twist, one of the arrested students accused a school security officer, Owolabi Emmanuel, of being involved in an unrelated theft case.

The student alleged that Mr. Emmanuel was seen early one morning with a bag, shortly before cable wire was reported missing from one of the buildings. The security officer has since been summoned for questioning.

The case has now been transferred to Noforija Police Station for further investigation and potential prosecution.
