Supreme Court To Deliver Judgement on Local Government Autonomy Dispute
The Supreme Court will deliver its final judgement on local government autonomy between the federal government and state governors on July 11th.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Supreme Court has scheduled its final judgement on local government autonomy for Thursday, July 11th, settling the dispute between the federal government and the 36 state governors.
It was reported that all involved parties and their lawyers have been notified of the date.

A document indicates that the notice was served to the Federal Government through the office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice in Abuja.
The federal government seeks full autonomy for the country’s 774 local governments, a move opposed by state governments.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has directed the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to withhold allocations to local government areas run by unelected officials.
This decision follows a motion of urgent public importance by Ademorin Kuye (APC, Lagos) and Jonathan Gaza Gbewfi, highlighting the need to address state governments’ refusal to uphold democratic principles in local government administration.
