Trained skater, Abdul Afeez Adegboyega, has expressed his concerns about the negative effect on skating practices in Lagos State, lamenting that security forces have occupied all the smooth grounds that are meant for training.
Skating is a sport which is done by moving along a surface using skates on smooth ground or ice as it is occasionally done in Europe.
Records make us understand that since 1924, the sport has been a part of the Winter Olympic Games. Men’s singles, ladies’ singles, and pair skating have been held most often. Ice dance joined as a medal sport in 1976 and a team event debuted at the 2014 Olympics.

Adegboyega told our reporter that skating is a sport that could be practised individually, stating that social distancing is easily carried out effectively. “Personal protective equipment like helmets, knee guide and elbow guide to reduce injury,” he said.
Another skilful skater, Tunde Balogun, said skating is a sport which most of the Nigerian youths have been trooping into as it has other advantages besides the fact that it is a sport. He said it has an economic advantage as it is used for sharing flyers and entertaining people at a political rally and musical videos.
He moved further to say the lockdown order has hindered them from practising, as skating is an outdoor game. He added that skating practitioners should go away from the expressway for practising because it is a bad habit.
“Those of you using skating for robbery at the expressway should know that you will be caught up one day,” he said.
