Donations have poured in to support a poor Kenyan widow based in Mombasa identified as Peninah Bahti Kitsao, who pretended to be cooking for her 8 children but was actually boiling stones.
Before the outbreak of Coronavirus, Peninah worked as a laundry woman and was able to gather enough money to feed her family, but as the outbreak lingered coupled with the lockdown, she recorded low patronage.
The cry of hunger by her children on Tuesday, April 28th forced her to boil stones to trick them that food is almost ready, hoping they would fall asleep and forget.
But the biting hunger did not let the children sleep off as the crying increased and drew the attention of their neighbour, Prisca Nyakaragio Momanyi.
Prisca shared the situation with everyone and the story became viral, attracting more gifts and help from home and abroad which the widow described as a ‘miracle’, because she did not expect it.
