Long Convoy Belongs To Governors And Others, Not Tinubu, Media Aide Clarifies
Eko Hot Blog reports that The Special Adviser on Digital Media to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr Olusegun Dada has clarified the large size convoy that accompanied the President from Muritala Muhammad Airport on Tuesday.
The president was received at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state; Femi Gbajabiamila, chief of staff to the president; Kayode Egbetokun, the acting inspector-general of police; and Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser, after an official trip abroad.
Videos circulating online shows the President being accompanied from the airport by a convoy of over 100 vehicles upon his arrival from the United Kingdom. This has generated criticism from some Nigerians who described the long motorcade as insensitive citing the current economic hardship in the country.
Reacting to the issue via his official Twitter handle @DOlusegun, Mr Dada clarified that the acclaimed “Long size convoy” belongs to the several state governors, heads of all security agencies, party leaders and political associates of the president who were all at the airport to welcome him back to Nigeria.
“A lot has been said on the “Large Size Convoy” that followed the President from the Lagos Airport to his residence. While the criticisms are valid, it’s important to clarify for purpose of perspective.”
“The official vehicles of the president and principal aides make up less than 10% of the Motorcade. The other vehicles in the Presidential motorcade belong to Several State Governors, heads of all security agencies, Party Leaders and political associates of the President who were all at the airport to receive him. It’s erroneous to assume all the vehicles are the president’s”
“Being the first time President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will visit Lagos after being sworn in as president, the excitement of his return energized the support base to turn out in their massive numbers to welcome him. Sincere apologies on all traffic inconveniences” he said.
It would be recalled that The President was received at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos state; Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of staff to the President; Kayode Egbetokun, the Acting Inspector-General of Police; and Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser, after an official trip abroad.
