Nigeria’s 2024 African Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman, on Friday paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in Lagos, presenting his prestigious CAF award in honour of his achievement.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Lookman, who has become a national icon following his stellar season with Italian club Atalanta, was joined by his father, Mr Adeyinka Lookman, and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Mr Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, during his visit to President Tinubu’s residence.
At the Lagos House in Marina, Governor Sanwo-Olu warmly received the football star, describing him as a symbol of the “Greater Lagos Rising” initiative and a beacon of hope for millions of Nigerian youths. Sanwo-Olu praised Lookman’s historic achievement as a national triumph and a demonstration of how Nigerian sports talents, when nurtured, can excel globally.
The visit drew admiration across social media after it was shared by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat. Nigerians hailed Lookman for his humility and the inspiration he provides to aspiring athletes across the country.
Lookman also met with President Tinubu, where the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, joined the delegation. The President commended the 26-year-old for his dedication and excellence, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to grassroots sports development and youth empowerment.
Tinubu noted that Lookman’s journey from the streets of Lagos to global football stardom exemplifies what Nigerian youths can achieve when given the right opportunities. He emphasized the need for more investment in sports infrastructure and talent development
Lookman’s recent success includes a pivotal role in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League triumph, which earned him the coveted CAF Player of the Year award. His rise continues to inspire a new generation of Nigerian footballers.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu is in Lagos for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at 50 Summit, also taking place this weekend.
