Peter Obi has reacted to Okupe’s resignation as LP’s campaign DG.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has hailed the decision of Doyin Okupe to resign as the Director General of his Campaign Organisation.

It was earlier reported that Okupe stepped down from the position on Tuesday in a resignation letter addressed to the LP flagbearer.

In his resignation letter, Okupe said he has invested too much in Obi’s campaign to allow his personal travails to become a source of distraction.

Okupe’s resignation followed the ruling by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that convicted him of violating the Money Laundering Act.

In a letter addressed to Okupe on Wednesday, Obi said he has accepted his decision to resign from his campaign organisation and commended the LP chieftains’ efforts made so far towards his presidential bid.

The LP flagbearer commended Okupe’s support and tenacity that led to the countrywide acceptance of the party and his candidacy.

He wrote: “My Dear Elder Brother Doyin, I received your letter offering to step aside in order to avoid any distraction to the good work of trying to forge a new direction for our country, on board of which you have been from inception. It is a decision which I respect.

“The story of this historic effort, which has galvanised millions of our countrymen, particularly our youths, cannot be complete without mentioning your commitment, dedication, and the boundless energy that you brought to bear.
