LSMTL Goes for Gold: ISO Accreditation & Safe Construction
Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL) has embarked on a journey to obtain ISO accreditation In a bid to bolster its credibility and commitment to international standards.
This move aims to solidify the laboratory’s position as a beacon of quality assurance in the construction industry.
According to Engr. Olayinka Abdul, General Manager of LSMTL, the laboratory has meticulously benchmarked its processes and procedures against global best practices in materials testing.
This rigorous exercise underscores the importance of quality assurance in the construction industry and the laboratory’s dedication to upholding international standards.
Once accredited, the laboratory will offer globally recognized testing services, further enhancing its reputation as a trusted partner in the construction sector.

Engr. Abdul expressed confidence in the team of professionals within the Agency, comprising experts from various fields, including Geologists, Builders, Quantity surveyors, Civil, Structural, and specialized Engineers.
However, the General Manager also sounded the alarm on the growing concern of unsafe construction practices in the state.
She highlighted the increasing attempts by individuals to bypass essential materials testing procedures, putting lives and property at risk.
Engr. Abdul condemned the abuse faced by the Agency’s staff and emphasized the need for strict testing protocols and regulatory compliance to prevent building collapses.
The LSMTL is committed to addressing these challenges with more rigorous testing and inspection protocols, ensuring that construction projects meet the highest standards of safety and quality.
