The General Manager of the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Agency (LSMTL), Engr. Olayinka Abdul, has urged agency personnel to strive for optimal performance to secure ISO/17025 Accreditation for their materials testing procedures.
At an in-house forum themed “Starting the Journey to Becoming ISO 17025: 2017: Conforming Materials Testing Laboratory With Global Recognition,” Engr. Abdul emphasized the importance of improving quality and customer satisfaction in materials testing.
She highlighted the necessity of producing accurate and reliable results that demonstrate technical competence for quality assurance.
She stated, “ISO 17025 is a standard that outlines the requirements for testing calibration laboratories using the framework of laboratory operations, technical capabilities, equipment, personnel, and qualitative system management.”
“Accreditation of our Agency is paramount as it elevates our potential, paving the way for ISO certification on best practices. It reaffirms our technical competence and impartiality in the built industry,” the General Manager added.

Engr. Abdul noted the need to retain trained personnel to ensure continuous development of the initiative, stressing the importance of support from the Head of Service to address resource constraints following personnel redeployment after training.
She further explained that maintaining a stable career path will enhance service delivery and support the ISO Accreditation process, fostering global integration and increased output for the Agency.
Engr. Dimeji Folami, CEO of Dominite Management Systems Ltd and a forum facilitator, underscored the importance of considering variables such as workforce, internal audit, management review systems, and equipment used for calibration in the Accreditation process.
He stated that constant appraisal and establishing a Management Information System are crucial for the Agency’s accredited certification, ensuring global approval of its materials testing results within the international construction industry.
Engr. Folami also called for periodic internal audits and management reviews to assess conformity to standards required for accreditation and best practices.
