EKO HOT BLOG reports that a 25-year-old housemaid Dominion Okoro has revealed that she killed Madam Maria Oredola Igbinedion, 85, the mother of a former Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, with a stool.

Okoro stated this while being paraded at Edo State Police headquarters in Benin on Tuesday.

She said she carried out the nefarious act while the old woman was sleeping in her bedroom.

Okoro also confessed to carting away N100,000, a wristwatch and jewellery from the GRA residence of the Igbinedions.

She said, “I killed Mama (Madam Maria Igbinedion) to carry her money. She did not offend me. While she was sleeping on her bed, around 12:01 a.m. on December 2, 2021, I used a stool to hit her on the head and she was shouting for help, but only the gateman was around and he did not hear the shout. Mama later died.

“I waited till 4 a.m. on December 2, 2021, before leaving the house with Mama’s N100,000, wristwatch, and jewellery. I escaped to Cross River State, but I was later arrested by the police.”

Speaking after the confession, Edo Commissioner of Police, Phillip Ogbadu, revealed that it took time, effort, and money to arrest Dominion.

He noted that no fewer than 20 persons were first arrested before Dominion was arrested in her hometown in Calabar.

He confirmed that Dominion Okoro would soon be charged to court after a thorough investigation.

Ogbadu also stated the Edo State Police Command recovered 452 arms and ammunition from suspects between August and Dec. 21.

He disclosed that ammunition recovered included 295 live ammunition and 125 cartridges.

He added that arms recovered were 14 locally-made guns and pistols, nine Pump-Action guns as well as nine double-barreled guns.

He also disclosed that 18 vehicles and two motorcycles were recovered within the period.

The commissioner further revealed that no fewer than 427 suspects were arrested for various crimes within the period.

Giving a breakdown of the arrests, Ogbadu said that 105 suspects were arrested for alleged cultism, 61 for armed robbery, and 37 for alleged kidnapping.

He said: “The command arrested 55 suspects for alleged murder, 23 for unlawful possession of firearms, 13 for rape and defilement.

“Also nine suspects were arrested for attempted murder, six for alleged child stealing, 49 for arson, and four for impersonation.

“Six suspects were arrested for alleged falsehood, 18 for grievous harm and wounding of their victims.”

He also disclosed that 41 kidnapped victims were rescued by the command within the period under review, while 349 cases were charged to court.
