An infant Identified as Somkenechukwu was strangled to death by maid, Hope Istifanus in Ihechiowa street, off MCC road, Owerri, Imo state.
Hope Istifanus was left to take care of the toddler by the mother who trades at Relief Market, Owerri.
While the mother was away, Hope strangled infant Somkenechukwu to death after which she disguised the baby in a sleeping position.
When the mother came back from the market and waited for about four hours for her sleeping baby to wake up all to no avail, she became worried and tried to wake the baby up herself.

After several failed attempts, she rushed Somkenechukwu to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead for over 8 hours.
The pandemonium that ensued prompted a lot of interrogation towards Hope who came to the hospital as well, after which she confessed to have strangled the baby.
It is important to note that Somkenechukwu’s father is currently bedridden as a result of an accident he had months ago.
Hope who is 16 years of age blamed her action on the devil. She was promptly taken to the MCC road police station for detention and thorough investigation.
The police spokesman for the state, Orlando Ikeokwu has confirmed the case and also stated that the case has been traansfered to the police state command.
