1. Kwara rice farmers laud Gov AbdulRazaq’s dry season initiative
Beneficiaries of the Kwara State Government Agricultural Inputs and Irrigation Equipment Empowerment Scheme have commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for enhancing the capacity of the indigenous farmers and improving food production in the state.
The farmers gave this commendation during an unscheduled inspection visit to the Salala Cluster Irrigation farm site in Afon, Asa Local Government Area of the State.
A statement by Yusuf Adebisi, Press Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, stated that a farm leader, Alhaji Kayode Yusuf, said the irrigation empowerment programme has changed the face of rice production, pointing out that the vision of the group is to establish a rice industrial estate in the state.
2. No govt can solve all country’s problems – Ezekwesili
Former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, on Thursday, said no single government was capable of solving all the problems of the country alone.
Ezekwesili, who is the convener, FixPolitics, and founder, School of Politics, Policy and Governance, said citizens must be part of the process of solving problems in society.
She said this when her team at the Human Capital Africa, an accountability initiative, paid a visit to Not Forgotten Initiative School, a non-profit school set up for providing free access to education, in Abuja.
3. PICTORIAL: Ebonyi receives Air Peace inaugural flight
A crowd of enthusiastic residents of Ebonyi State with the state governor, David Umahi, received the first air-landing of the Air Peace flight in the state’s airport on Thursday.
The Ebonyi International Airport, situated at Onueke, in the Ezza South Local Government Area of the state, on Thursday, received the inaugural flight.
The Air Peace Hopper 5N-BXF landed at the airport around 3.50 pm, with about 36 citizens onboard.
The governor is expected to officially name the airport after the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), later in the day.

4. Sudan crisis: First set of Nigerian evacuees expected today – NiDCOM
Barring any last-minute changes, the first set of Nigerian evacuees from Sudan are expected to arrive in Nigeria today, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM has said.
The Chairperson of NiDCOM, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed this to when she featured at the 70th session of the State House Ministerial Briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
She said that 13 buses have departed from two universities in the Sudanese Capital, Khartoum, ferrying Nigerian students to the Aswan border in Egypt, where they will be airlifted to Nigeria.
5. NLC bars State Chairmen from giving awards to politicians
The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Thursday, barred all its chairmen and other officers of the Congress across 36 states of the federation from giving awards to politicians.
NLC also said it has taken immediate disciplinary action against all officers currently colluding with some state governors to flagrantly defy the orders of the National Administrative Council, NAC.
The Congress President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, disclosed this, at the end of the two day NAC meeting held at the Labour House, Abuja.
The NLC President, flanked by the General Secretary, Comrade Emma Ugboaja and other labour leaders, said the resolutions were aimed at strengthening the NLC and the practice of Industrial relations in the country.
6. Food security impossible without women farmers – VC, Uniosun
The Vice Chancellor, Osun State University, Uniosun, Professor Clement Adebooye has disclosed that achieving food security will be impossible in Nigeria without giving due recognition to women farmers.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the University’s Women’s Day on Thursday at the University auditorium in Osogbo, the Professor of Agriculture said the inequality faced by women farmers is not only an impediment to their development, but also to the food sustainability of the country as a whole.
He added that female farmers have always been on the receiving end of resources crises and violence despite that they have limited influence in decision making process.
