1. 2023: Gov Abiodun declares for second term
The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday, declared his intention to run for a second term in office.
The Governor, in a statement, said he would be running for re-election alongside his Deputy, Noimot Oyedele.
He said, “Today, I formally declared my intention to run for a second term in office, and I also announced that I will be running with my deputy, Noimot Salako Oyedele.”
Abiodun made the declaration during the presentation of the nomination form to him by the ‘DA Mandate Group.’
2. Russian strikes hit Kyiv as UN Secretary-General visits
Russian strikes slammed into central Kyiv on Thursday as the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, was visiting, wounding three, the mayor said.
Journalists saw a building in flames and black smoke pouring into the air with a heavy presence of police and rescuers in the area, a residential neighbourhood on the western side of the city.
The Kyiv mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said there had been “two hits in the Shevchenkovsky district”, with one hitting the lower floors of a residential building.
He said three people had been taken to the hospital but the extent of their injuries was not immediately clear.
3. Police arrest Rivers PDP gov aspirant
A Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Rivers State, Farah Dagogo, has been arrested by a team of policemen on Thursday evening.
Dagogo, who is a serving member of the House of Representatives, representing Degema-Bonny federal constituency, was picked at the PDP zonal secretariat.
The Governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, in a statement by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri has alleged that Hon. Dagogo led suspected cultists to disrupt the screening of National Assembly and State House of Assembly screening on Wednesday, but Dagogo had since denied the allegation.
Farah had arrived at the secretariat at about past 6pm and walked into the hall where the panel was conducting the screening, but some policemen followed him soon afterwards.

4. 2023 elections: Buhari sends strong warning against interference
AHEAD of the 2023 general elections, President Muhammadu Buhari has warned foreign bodies not to interfere with the elections.
The President also told those planning to rig the election to perish the idea, vowing to use any legitimate means to defend the mandate and will of the people.
President Buhari stated this at an Iftar dinner with members of the Diplomatic Corps at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said, ‘‘Those planning to rig the forthcoming elections should think twice because I intend to resolutely protect and defend the sacred will of the Nigerian people, to be expressed through the ballot box.”
5. Vote for your conscience, Amaechi urges Lagos APC
The Minister of Transportation and Presidential hopeful of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has urged party members in Lagos State to support his presidential aspiration by voting for him in the party’s primary slated for May.
Chief Amaechi who stressed the need for APC to present a sellable candidate in the 2023 presidential elections, said he represents the ideal candidate first as the youngest with much energy and a public service record that towered him above other contenders.
The presidential aspirant spoke during a courtesy call on the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu at Government House, Marina Lagos on Thursday.
6. Measles cases increase by 79% in 2 months, UNICEF, WHO warns
The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, and the World Health Organisation, WHO, have warned of what they described as a “perfect storm” of conditions for measles outbreaks, disclosing that measles cases increased by 79 per cent in the first two months of 2022, compared to the same period in 2021.
Meanwhile, Nigeria, Somalia, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Ethiopia recorded the largest measles outbreak in the past year due to insufficient measles vaccine coverage is the major reason for outbreaks, wherever they occur.

7. ASUU: N1.6tr yearly foreign tuition enough to fix varsities
The N1.6 trillion paid annually as tuition by Nigerians in foreign schools is huge enough to fix the problems of the nation’s university system, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said.
ASUU also disagreed with Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige’s claim that he had done what many could not do to forestall strikes by university teachers.
President of the union, Emmanuel Osodeke, said this at a meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja yesterday.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen Chris Ngige has said he possesses everything Nigerians yearn for in a new President.
Ngige, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said the next president must be visionary, intelligent, courageous and firm.
According to him, the country needs a President with capacity and experience who must be in charge.
He spoke at the public presentation of Chief Chekwas Okorie’s book, titled: “APGA and the Igbo Question.”
In a statement from his media office on Thursday, Ngige described himself as eminently qualified to contest for the office of the President, saying he owed apologies to nobody for throwing his hat into the ring.
He said: “We need leaders who are visionary. As a leader, you must see what others didn’t see. We need leaders who are intelligent. You must be intelligent to see what others are not able to see.

9. Oyo APC Members Meet At Ajimobi’s House, Resolve To Rectify Faulty Processes In 48hours
A host of stakeholders and leaders, across the two divides of the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday, resolved to rectify the “faulty processes” that have left the state chapter of the party disunited.
This is as leaders of the party set up a committee with a 48 hours mandate to revisit, amend the “faulty processes” and come up with a give and take kind of arrangement that satisfies all party interests and engenders a united front.
This resolve was reached at a meeting of the party stalwarts summoned by the wife of the late leader of the party, Mrs Florence Ajimobi that was held at the Oluyole, Ibadan residence of the Ajimobi family.
Party stakeholders present at the meeting included the host, Mrs Ajimobi; party chairman, Mr Isaac Omodewu; former deputy governor, Mr Moses Adeyemo; Senator Ayo Adeseun; Dr Azeez Adeduntan; Chief Kunle Sanda; Mr Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye; Mr Bolaji Repete; Mrs Hannah Ogunesan; Mr Hammed Adigun; Mr Olalekan Alli; Chief Akinade Fijabi.

10. Police Nab Three Drug Barons, Recover Gun Inside Car Engine In Delta
Operatives of the Nigerian Police, Delta state command, have arrested three suspects with assorted drugs during a raid of a criminal hideout at Azugwu street, Umuonicha quarters in Ogwuash-Uku, headquarters of Aniocha south council area of the state.
The suspects include a 20-year-old Izuagbe Theophilus, Okofu Henry, 22, and Confidence Ugochukwu, a 19-year-old girl.
This is according to a statement released on Thursday by the police public relations officer, DSP Bright Edafe, who named the exhibits recovered from the suspects to include one hundred and forty-seven wraps of dry weeds suspected to be ‘loud’, forty-seven wraps of substances suspected to be cocaine, seven wraps of colorado, and forty-four wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
In a similar development, the operatives attached to safer highway patrol who were deployed along Benin-Sapele road in Sapele, while conducting stop and search recovered one cut-to-size double barrel gun concealed inside the engine compartment.
The driver of the vehicle, a Toyota Camry car with registration number APP 134 UP, one Osasere Megegbe along with his cohort, Edosa Monday both of no 12 Emah Community road, Ekiadolor Benin City were arrested.
