1. Buhari fires NIPC boss, Umar

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday evening, terminated the appointment of Hajiya Saratu Umar as the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission, with immediate effect.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, disclosed this in a statement he signed on Thursday titled ‘President Buhari terminates appointment of Saratu Umar as NIPC boss.’

Umar’s sacking comes barely a week after a scathing report unearthing fault lines in the Commission’s administration.

2. Politics now difficult, don’t underrate voters, Buhari tells politicians

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday, in Abuja, said the outcome of the February 25 and March 18 elections was proof that voters had awoken to their power, hence, politics would no longer be business as usual.

“No one should underrate the Nigerian voter anymore. Politics will be more difficult, henceforth,” Buhari told a delegation he received at the State House, Abuja, led by the newly-installed Emir of Dutse, the Jigawa State Capital, Muhammad Sunusi.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement  signed on Thursday titled ‘Outcome of 2023 has changed politics, there is no more easy route to power says President Buhari.’

Citing the “stunning outcome” of the National Assembly elections in which at least 10 governors lost their senatorial bids, Buhari said there was no longer a guaranteed route to power and the voter was truly the king.

3. Fuji star Pasuma loses mum

Alhaja Adijat Kuburat, the mother of Fuji music star, Wasiu Alabi, popularly known as Pasuma, has died.

Pasuma announced this in a post via his verified Instagram page.

“My jewel, I will miss you forever! Words fail me. Rest in power and peace, please watch over me from heaven,” Pasuma wrote Thursday, posting his picture and late Alhaja Kuburat.

Fans and entertainers who flooded the comment section consoled Pasuma.

4. APC manifesto to guide NASS members in electing principal officers – Govs

Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC have downplayed their roles in the choice of principal officers of the 10th National Assembly, expressing optimism that the lawmakers would be guided by the party manifesto and expectations of Nigerians in electing their leaders.

Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Kebbi state Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja shortly after a meeting of the forum.

He said; “We believe that our members in the 10th National Assembly are people with wealth of experience that will bring it to bear in choosing the new leadership. Many of them, including the freshers will be mindful of the party, it’s manifesto and the expectations of Nigeria from our party.

5. Customs intercept Chinese rice, cannabis sativa, cigarettes in Ogun

The Ogun Area 1 Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), said it has intercepted weeds, suspected to be cannabis sativa, with market value of over N98 million in the first quarter of 2023.

The Ogun Area 1 Controller of the NCS, Comptroller Bamidele Makinde, who disclosed this, while addressing journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital, while handing over the illicit drugs to the State Commander of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said the illicit drugs were packed in 1, 375 wraps of book, bread and coconut sizes.

Makinde, said the command also intercepted 740 bags of foreign parboiled Chinese rice,
each weighing 25kg from a warehouse in Sagamu axis of the State during a night raid carried out by the anti-smuggling operatives of the command on the 15th of March, 2023.

6. Passengers escape death in Bayelsa boat mishap

A local boat- MV Tari conveying goods and passengers from Yenagoa to communities on the Atlantic fringe of Brass in Brass Local Government Area on Thursday capsized near Okoroma in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The boat mishap, it was learned, occurred at about 1:30pm at a sharp bend along the winding waterways in the hinterland of the state.

The ill-fated boat, was said to have departed the Swali jetty in Yenagoa filled with passengers and goods in the morning for Okpoama on the Brass Island when news later filtered into town of the tragic incident.

Though the cause of the mishap could not be immediately ascertained, multiple sources blamed the accident on overloading.
