1. Reps demand hospital relocation from Buhari’s hometown

The House of Representatives has demanded the relocation of a Federal Medical Centre from Daura, the hometown of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to Funtua in Katsina State.

The federal parliament particularly urged the Federal Ministry of Health to ‘reconsider the process of converting Daura General Hospital to Federal Medical Centre in the public interest,’ while also urging the ministry to facilitate the relocation of the Federal Medical Centre to Funtua, “being the only senatorial district without a federal health tertiary institution with immediate effect.”

A member of the House from Katsina State, Babangida Ibrahim, made the demand via a motion at the plenary on Thursday, which the lawmakers unanimously adopted.

The motion was titled, “Need to Relocate the Upgraded General Hospital, Daura to Funtua as Federal Medical Centre.”

2. Yuletide: NSCDC deploys 4,000 personnel to Abuja churches, others

The Commandant of the Federal Capital Territory chapter of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr Peter Maigari, has announced the deployment of 4,000 personnel, across the FCT, to ensure hitch-free celebrations during the festivities.

In a statement made available to the press on Thursday, and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, Okomanyi Comfort, the Commandant revealed that the officers were deployed to cover strategic areas like places of worship, recreational facilities, markets, shopping malls, parks, gardens, and suspected flashpoints, to beef up security and protect critical national assets and infrastructures, and to guide against unwanted activities of criminal elements during the festivities.

Amongst the 4,000 deployed officers, are personnel from the Rapid Response team, Special Squad, Female Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit, Armed Squad, Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Explosive team, and the Intelligence Unit.

Maigari charged them to be extra vigilant and to discharge their statutory responsibility with all diligence. He added that the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr Abubakar Audi, and the Minister of the FCT, Mallam Muhammad Bello, had given him a marching order, to continue the arrest of violators of the law, as well as vandals of manholes and other critical national assets.

3. Police raid IPOB’s Ebonyi ‘bomb factory’, kill two

The Ebonyi State Police Command has disclosed that it uncovered the biggest bomb factory in the South-East operated by the Indigenous People of Biafra and its militia arm, Eastern Security Network.

The command said its operatives uncovered the factory after a tip-off on the activities of the miscreants in Obegu, a boundary area between Onicha-Isu and Ishielu Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State.

The command’s spokesperson, Chris Anyanwu, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

During the operation, Anyanwu revealed that the IPOB/ESN members engaged the police officers in a gun battle leading to the death of two of the separatist group members and the arrest of one of their commanders.

4. Agriculture, major target for Nigeria’s diversification — Katagum

Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Amb Mariam Yalwaji Katagum, has said agriculture was a major target for Nigeria’s diversification.

Speaking to a Trade delegation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands today in Abuja, Katagum said that the federal government welcomes more foreign direct investments in renewable energy, particularly in the agriculture and horticulture sectors, which she said offer more incentives to potential investors.

She said, “Improving the Nigerian economy places a high premium on increasing agricultural investments and fostering the expansion and viability of small and medium-sized businesses.

5. Gbajabiamila expresses sadness over Ambassador Seriki’s death

Speaker of the House of Representatives Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has expressed sadness over the death of Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Demola Seriki.

He described Seriki as a fine diplomat who represented Nigeria to the best of his ability.

Until his death, Ambassador Seriki was the Nigerian ambassador to Spain with concurrent accreditation as a Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation.

6. I left N14bn for Adeleke; he doesn’t understand governance — Oyetola

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, have resumed hostility over the state’s debt profile, with Oyetola stating that he left N14 billion in the state coffers.

The former governor also said that his successor does not understand governance, so is making embarrassing statements in public.

Meanwhile, Adeleke, while addressing council of traditional rulers at their monthly meeting at Ministry of Finance Building, said the state is indebted to the tune of N407.32 billion apart from debt owed local contractors.

7. Buhari faults Ararume’s suit seeking reversal of sack as NNPCL’s Chair

President Muhammadu Buhari has faulted the suit filed by Senator Ifeanyi Ararume challenging his removal as the Chairman of the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL).

In a notice of objection filed for the President by the Federal Ministry of Justice, the court was urged to strike out the suit for being statute barred.

It was argued the suit was filed about seven months after the cause of action arose as against the three months allowed for the institution of such cases under Section 2(a) of the Public Officers Protection Act, 2004.

The President noted that Ararume was removed on January 17, 2022, but chose to sue on September 12, 2022.

8. Nigeria gets $9bn cheap loans from World Bank in 30 months

In the last 30 months, Nigeria has borrowed $9 billion from the World Bank at highly concessionary rates

World Bank’s Nigeria Country Director, Shubham Chaudhuri disclosed this in Abuja at the launch of the World Bank’s Nigeria Development Update (NDU) and Country Economic Memorandum.

Shubham Chaudhuri said the bank’s mission in Nigeria: “is to help the host country eliminate poverty and make life better”, the World Bank, he said has been able to attract funds in excess of $9 billion for financing into Nigeria in the past thirty months on concessionary rates.”

9. EFCC case: Yahaya Bello’s nephew, Kogi cashier sent to prison over alleged N10bn fraud

The Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has sent one Ali Bello to prison.

The nephew to Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello and his alleged accomplice Dauda Sulaiman are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),

They will remain there pending the fulfilment of bail conditions.

They were remanded by Justice James Kolawole Omotosho alongside Abdulsalami Hudu, a cashier at the Kogi State House (currently at large).

The defendants face a 10-count charge of misappropriation and money laundering committed between January and December 2021.

10. Qatar 2022: Arsenal told to sign Morocco World Cup duo

Arsenal legend, Ray Parlour has urged Mikel Arteta’s side to sign Morocco World Cup duo Sofyan Amrabat and Azzedine Ounahi.

According to Parlour, Onunahi is a different class, while Amrabat is a very good player.
