1. Stop launching attacks on our health workers – UITH
The Management of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital has cautioned relatives of patients brought to the hospital for medical care from attacking the workers of the hospital.
It said that it will henceforth arrest and take legal action against the relatives of such patients who are involved in subjecting its workers to danger.
The warning was contained in a statement signed by Mrs Elizabeth Ajiboye, Head, Corporate Affairs Unit on behalf of the Management of UITH.
The statement made available to Punch correspondent on Thursday followed the alleged beating up of a medical doctor in the Accident and Emergency wing of the hospital on Tuesday by three relatives of a patient identified as Alhaji Soliu.
2. NIS uncovers new human trafficking tricks in Bayelsa
The Nigeria Immigration Service, Bayelsa State Command, claimed on Thursday that it had uncovered ‘new methods’ used by suspected human traffickers to traffick underage girls.
In a statement by the state Comptroller, Mr Sunday James, the command however cited the ECOWAS Travel Certificate as one of the means adopted by the human traffickers in their illicit business.
James claimed that the perpetrators use the ECOWAS travel document “to evade security checks and avoid suspicion and transport their victims to any of the regional body’s member states.”
He said, “A victim by the name of Miss Maureen Ekpe was stopped and denied facility after a thorough investigation, while the purported trafficker is at large, the victim was released to her family with a warning.”
3. Police nab fraudsters who abducted colleague over seized N22m
Men of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued a suspected internet fraudster, Haruna Usman, abducted by colleagues for withholding proceeds.
Our correspondent gathered that the kidnapped fraudster reportedly released N2,200,000 out of N26,437,950 to other members of his fraud syndicate allegedly obtained from a victim in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Oyeyemi said the four suspected internet fraudsters popularly known as yahoo boys, were arrested on Monday.

4. 2023: Southerner will be president for next 8 years — Akeredolu
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, of Ondo state, has said that it’s the turn of the South, to produce the next President for another eight years.
Akeredolu declared that the struggle for the Southern part of the country to produce the next President must continue until it is realised.
He said this in Akure while playing host to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi at the Government House, Alagbaka, Akure.
Amaechi was in Akure for the Presentation of Staff of Office to Chief Olu Falae as Olu of Ilu Abo, in Akure North Local Government Area.
5. Man in court for allegedly beating Police officer on duty
A 22-year-old man, Sunday Awominure, was docked before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for allegedly beating a Police officer on duty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 21, 2022, around 1:10 am at No 3, Otutu Street, Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi said that the defendant assaulted one Odedoyin Ayobami, wounding him in his forehead and both hands.
He added that the defendant conducted himself in a manner that may likely cause total mayhem at Otutu area which is opened to public in Ile-Ife.
6. Obiozor irreplaceable, says ABC Nwosu
Former minister of health , Prof ABC Nwosu, has expressed sadness over the death of President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo , Prof. George Obiozor.
He said the demise of the diplomat was particularly painful to those close to him because of the man’s uniqueness and commitment to the unity and progress Ndigbo and Nigeria.
Nwosu said, “It is sad his death came at this time . It is sad not just for Ndigbo but for Nigeria and the diplomatic world.
“Those of us his friends will feel his painful loss very much . It has left me totally disoriented and confused.”

7. Fire razes 10 cars impounded by traffic agency in Abia
No fewer than 10 cars seized by the Abia State Traffic and Indiscipline Management Agency (TIMAAS) got burnt in a fire outbreak on Thursday.
The cars were razed at the premises of the Abia State Meteorological Complex, Umukalika in Obingwa Local Government Area.
The affected cars were impounded before a court declared TIMAAS an illegal body.
A High Court sitting in Obingwa Judicial Division declared TIMAAS an illegal body not created by any law of the State House of Assembly.
8. Kano Hisbah destroys 25 trailers of beer
The Kano State Hisbah Board on Thursday said it destroyed 25 trailers of beer in 2022.
“Additional bottles of assorted beer will be wiped out before January 2023,” the Sharia police said.
Section 401 of the Penal Code Law No 4 of 2004 prohibits the manufacture, distillation, disposal, haulage, consumption and possession of all brands of intoxicating liquors in the state.
Commander General of Kano State Hisbah Board, Dr Harun Muhammad Sani Ibn Sina, who briefed reporters, said the agency arrested 2,260 suspects.

9. EEDC decries indiscriminate bush burning during harmattan season
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), has decried the spate of bush burning by South-East residents, especially as the harmattan sets in.
While sounding a note of warning, the EEDC reminded residents that harmattan season is usually characterised by dryness of the environment, leaves and every object, material, including human, which makes it very easy for fire to spread at every given opportunity.
Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC, Mr Emeka Ezeh, said the warning had become necessary owing to dangers posed by fire outbreak during harmattan.
Ezeh recounted the losses the company had borne in the past years as a result of uncontrolled, indiscriminate burning of bushes and refuse dumps.
10. Why Nigerians will experience worsening economy in 2023 – Sam Amadi
Sam Amadi, a former chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has predicted that Nigerians may face harsher economic reality in 2023 as prices of products continue to skyrocket.
According to him, the current prices of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, popularly called petrol, and other products in the market, signals bleak economy in 2023.
Sam, an Arise TV analyst made the remark on Thursday in a tweet on his official Twitter handle.
