1. DSS gives NNPCL 48 hours to resolve fuel scarcity

The Department of State Services has given Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and other stakeholders in the downstream sector 48 hours to end the lingering fuel scarcity across the country.

Addressing journalists at the DSS headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, the spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, said they held a closed door meeting with stakeholders who agreed to end the scarcity.

He said all DSS commands had been placed on red alert and would commence operations to bring defaulters to book.

2. FG signs MoU for direct flights to Seychelles

The Federal Government has announced that it will begin direct flight operations to the Republic of Seychelles soon.

This was contained in a statement by the minister’s Special Assistant on Public Affairs, James Odaudu, made available to journalists on Thursday.

The announcement came after the Federal Executive Council approved the Memorandum of Understanding and Initial Air Services Agreement between both countries, adding that the two countries have formerly ratified the agreement.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, using the platform of the ongoing International Civil Aviation Negotiation (ICAN 2022) event holding in Abuja, led officials of the ministry to sign the Bilateral Air Services Agreement while the Republic of Seychelles Minister of Transport, Anthony Derjacques, signed on behalf of his country.

The statement reads,”During the ceremony, the two ministers underscored the importance of the BASA as it will promote air services and connectivity between both countries, enhance business, and promote tourism.

“They both agreed that the signing would further promote the African Union Agenda 2063 and called on citizens of both countries to latch on the opportunities of the BASA for their mutual benefits.

3. Unaudited accounts: Reps panel indicts NNPC, CBN, others

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts has laid its report on ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government who failed to render their audited accounts within eight years.

Prominent among those indicted in the report laid at the plenary on Thursday by the committee’s Chairman, Oluwole Oke, are the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (now Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited), Niger Delta Development Commission, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, among others.

It was titled, ‘Report of the Committee on Public Accounts on the Deliberate and Reckless Refusal by Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government to Render Audited Accounts for the periods 2014–2018 and 2019–2021 to the Auditor–General for the Federation and Approve the Recommendations Therein.’

In the report, the committee recommended prosecutions by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, warrant of arrest issuance against chief accounting officers and sanctioning of various MDAs.

4. Labour Party promises to give Nigerians N80,000 minimum wage

The Labour Party has promised to implement a minimum wage of N80,000-N100,000 if its presidential candidate, Peter Obi wins next year’s presidential election.

The party’s Deputy National Chairman, Ayo Olorunfemi disclosed this during Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday.

Olorunfemi said the party was planning to increase the current minimum wage from N30,000 to the range of N80,000 and N100,000 while making a case for hourly paid jobs as outlined in their manifesto.

5. Peter Obi, Atiku’s spokespersons guilty of denigrating Tinubu – Fani-Kayode

A former minister of aviation and member of the All Progressives Congress, APC presidential campaign council, Femi Fani-Kayode said the spokespersons of Peter Obi, Abubakar Atiku’s presidential campaigns were guilty of denigrating Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Fani-Kayode stated this in a series of tweets via his verified Twitter handle on Thursday.

His words, “A few days earlier I heard another Obi spokesman on yet another Channels Television programme referring to him as “Nebuchadnezzar”, “a monkey” and “satan.”

“The thing that appalled me the most was that in both interviews the moderators allowed him to keepmaking the point and mocking our candidate.

6. We won’t be rigid on cash withdrawal limit — Emefiele

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, on Thursday, said that the recently-introduced policy on cash withdrawal limit was not meant to hurt anybody but to strengthen the nation’s economy.

The CBN governor, who stated this while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting behind closed-doors with President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, assured that the apex bank will not be rigid on the policy following criticism from the Senate, business experts and some stakeholders.

Recall that the CBN had, on Tuesday, unveiled a revised cash withdrawal limit with a maximum of N100,000 cash withdrawal per week for individuals and N500,000 cash per week for corporate bodies.

7. ‘Buhari will leave Nigeria better than he met it’

The Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari has extolled President Muhammadu Buhari’s style of leadership, saying the president will be remembered for leaving a legacy of leadership by example and excellence.

Gambari stated this when he inaugurated the 54-seater State House Multi-Purpose Training Centre, fitted with state-of-the-art multimedia equipment, and renovated ward and three new ambulances at the State House Clinic, on Thursday in Abuja.

The New Ward is housing the Medical Out-Patient Department (MOPD), Dialysis unit, HIV/AIDS unit, among others, at the State House Clinic.

According to the Chief of Staff, President Buhari is determined to leave Nigeria better than he met it.

8. 953,803 PVCs uncollected in Lagos, says INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has said 5,676,858 PVCs have been collected out of 6,630,661 received in the state from 2011 to 2021.

Mr Olusegun Agbaje, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Lagos state disclosed this at a Stakeholders’ Meeting on Collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) with leadership of political parties, civil society organisations, and religious leaders on Thursday in Ikeja.

Agbaje, who commended all stakeholders for collaboration in the quest to build a sustainable democratic culture in Nigeria, said the commission was doing everything possible to deliver an acceptable and credible elections everyone would be proud of in 2023.

“It is pertinent to note that as at Dec.2, 953,803 PVCs were yet to be collected by their owners.

9. Ogun 2023: Court orders INEC to accept, publish Labour Party’s candidates

An Abeokuta Federal High Court has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize all National Assembly candidates of the Labour Party (LP) for the 2023 general elections in Ogun State.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that the names of all candidates of the LP in Ogun were missing when INEC released its final list of candidates.

Following the omission, the party had dragged the commission to court, arguing that the omission was an administrative error on the part of INEC as its conduct of primary elections did not go against the Electoral Act.

The party insisted that it held credible primary elections and also submitted the names of the candidates that emerged from the primaries within 90 days time frame provided by the Electoral Act.

10. Transfer: Ten Hag set to replace De Gea with World Cup goalkeeper

Manchester United are trying to sign Switzerland goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, on a free transfer next summer, ESPN reports.

Sommer will leave Borussia Monchengladbach when his contract with the German club expires at the end of the season.

United want to add the 33-year-old to Erik ten Hag’s squad and can begin negotiations from January 1.
