1. Poll: Makinde declares Friday half-working day

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared Friday (tomorrow) as a half-working day, to allow public and civil servants who may need to travel to perform their civic responsibilities in during Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the declaration was contained in a circular signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Olubanwo Adeosun.

The circular, which was addressed to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as the State House of Assembly and other extra-ministerial departments, directed that government offices will close by 12 noon on Friday, with only staff covering essential services expected to remain at their duty posts afterward.

According to the circular, the declaration of Friday as a half-day is in tandem with the governor’s commitment to deepening democracy and good governance.

2. INEC distributes election materials to 16 LGs in Kwara

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kwara State, Mallam Attahiru Madami, on Thursday took delivery of some sensitive materials for the Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections from the Central Bank of Nigeria, Ilorin branch.

Madami, who was at the CBN office, supervised the movement of the materials out of the bank premises. He said that the materials would in turn be distributed to all the 16 local government areas of the state where the election would take place.

The REC said that the materials would be accompanied and monitored by the police and other security personnel to ensure that they are delivered safely to their destinations before the commencement of the election.

He said that the election materials would be delivered to all parts of the state.

3. Poll: Ex-militant leaders back Obi, demand Atiku’s withdrawal

Leaders of former Delta agitators across the seven states in the region have endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, for Saturday’s election.

The ex-Niger Delta militant leaders, their representatives in alliance with a new think-tank of oil producing ethnic nationality of the region, also warned against rigging the general elections and the manipulation of results.

This is as they demand the immediate withdrawal of the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, from the election.

The former agitators under the aegis of Conference of Ex-militants for Niger Delta Industrial Rebirth made the declaration in a 10-point communique after what they termed a well-attended conference in Port Harcourt.

The Electoral Forum, on Thursday, urged Nigerians to get acts together to discharge their civic responsibility of voting for credible leaders to pilot the affairs of the nation.

The Forum’s Chairman, Prof. Adebayo Olukoshi, who briefed journalists in Abuja, stressed the need for stakeholders to ensure the people’s will prevailed during Saturday’s election.

According to him, a credible outcome of the poll would support the country’s democracy to thrive.

5. Rise above fuel, naira scarcity, vote for Tinubu, APC, Akeredolu begs Nigerians

Chairman of the South West Governor’s Forum, Rotimi Akeredolu, has pleaded with Nigerians to rise above the frustration of the fuel and naira scarcity, to vote for the All Progressive Congress presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Saturday.

Akeredolu, in a state broadcast in Akure, the Ondo state capital, lamented that the “ill-timed cash swap policy and the artificial scarcity of fuel are both lethal injections.

According to him they were ” deliberately administered to demarket the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, create an uncontrollable crisis in the nation and finally frustrate the 2023 general elections.

Akeredolu, who said Tinubu represents the new Nigeria the people envisaged, noted that “the central purpose of the controversial Cash Swap Policy and artificial fuel scarcity was to frustrate the popularity and renowned acceptability of the APC Presidential candidate across all tribes and religions in this country.

6. What Peter Obi’s victory will do for Nigeria, Africa – Alexx Ekubo

Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo has said Peter Obi’s victory in next Saturday’s presidential election will do for Nigerian and Africa at large what former United States President, Barrack Obama’s victory did for the black race in America.

Recall that the actor had recently lamented that many have fallen out with their family and friends.

He advised Nigerians to avoid enmity with their family, friends, and acquaintances due to divergent political ideas.

Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has told the people of the State to trust him in the choice of presidential candidate they should vote for on Saturday.

8. Elections: IGP deploys 13 top officers to Kaduna

The Police Command in Kaduna says three Commissioners of Police, four deputies and six assistants have been deployed to oversee the conduct of 2023 general elections in the state.

The Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Muhammad Jalige, said the Inspector-General of Police,  Mr Usman Baba, deployed the top officers to provide water-tight security before, during and after the  elections

According to him, senior officers in the command are strategizing to provide effective security overage throughout the exercise in the state.

Jalige further said that the team headed by CP Babaji Sunday had already been deployed to various Senatorial zones.

9. Presidential election: NCC clears air on shutting down networks

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, said its attention has been drawn to what it describes as a fraudulent and misleading information circulating on some social media platforms, insinuating there is a planned shutdown of all telecom networks and relevant ICT Units, including online transfer facilities of the banks, with effect from today, February 23, 2023.

NCC advised all Nigerian public, consumers of telecommunications services, and all bank customers to ignore these or similar messages that insinuate deliberate network shutdown or disruption of services in the Nigerian telecom network.

“These malicious and subversive messages originated and are being circulated by fraudsters and unscrupulous elements in the society with the intent to cause chaos and panic among the populace,” the commission said in a statement on Thursday.

10. Biafra: Simon Ekpa released by Finnish Police after hours of questioning

A popular pro-Biafra separatist agitator, Simon Ekpa, has been released by Police in Finland, hours after he was arrested and grilled on Thursday, according to HS.

Earlier in the day, Ekpa was escorted out of his apartment in Lahti by Finish policemen.

He was later released after the police allegedly arrested him for a suspected crime.
