1. PVCs collection moves to ward level Friday — INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that the devolution of the Permanent Voter Cards to the wards will commence on Friday.
This was made known in a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, on Thursday.
The Commission noted that those who applied to replace lost, damaged, or defaced PVCs could collect their PVCs at the Registration Area/wards during this period.
According to the statement, the exercise will revert to the Local Government Offices of the Commission on January 15.
2. Presidency not retirement home, says Obi
The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, said, on Thursday, that the country’s topmost office was not a retirement home to be occupied by people in their 70s and above, but a place meant for young and agile people with a passion for the country’s development.
Obi, who said that he was the only young person among candidates of the four leading political parties in the February 25 election, said it was the turn of the Nigerian youth to take back the country by occupying the exalted office and as well others.
The LP flagbearer, who spoke in Ado Ekiti during his campaign in Ekiti State, harped on “character, competence, commitment and compulsion as necessary in the election”, saying, “this election must be based on competence.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday ordered a 36-hour ceasefire in Ukraine to run during Orthodox Christmas, a move quickly dismissed by war-battered Kyiv and its allies.

4. Again, INEC announces ICC as Presidential Collation Centre
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has announced the International Conference Centre ICC, Abuja as Collation Centre for the presidential election, which holds next month.
This was part of the decisions taken at the Commission’s regular weekly meeting which was held on Thursday in Abuja and deliberated on several issues, including the venue for the National Situation Room and Collation Centre for the 2023 General Election.
“As general elections approach, the Commission establishes a National Situation Room and Collation Centre where the results of Presidential elections are collated. Once again, the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja will serve as the venue for this important exercise”, said INEC National Commissioner in charge of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Barr. Festus Okoye.
5. We didn’t export 17.87m barrels of oil without documentation — NNPC
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, yesterday, denied exporting 17.877 million barrels of crude oil without proper documentation from 2016 to 2020.
A report, which quoted the former auditor-general of the federation (AuGF), had alleged that some exporters shipped crude oil without completing Nigeria’s export proceeds (NXP) forms.
The AuGF was said to have also alleged that NNPC Limited appointed inspection agents in 2017, without regard to a directive by President Muhammadu Buhari.
6. Huge cash withdrawals now attract jail term — Nigeria’s Intelligence agency, NFIU warns
The Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) has warned public and private entities against massive cash withdrawals.
The Director and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Mr Modibbo HammanTukur, gave the advisory in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.
He spoke on the state of the nation’s security threats and financial liquidity.
HammanTukur advised all federal Ministries, Departments, parastatal Agencies (MDAs), State Governments, Local Government Councils, corporate bodies as well as, civil servants, and public and private officers to embrace the cashless policy of money transactions to deepen national security.
