1. Buhari to sign third anti-corruption Action Plan August
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), Thursday, says he is eager to sign a third National Action Plan on the Open Government Partnership targeted at fighting corruption.
According to a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President revealed this when he received a delegation from the Open Government Partnership Support Unit, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Dr Sanjay Pradhan, at the State House, Abuja.
The statement is titled ‘Our benefits from joining open government partnership, by President Buhari.’
2. Insecurity: Be prepared, ex-CAN President tells FG
The Federal Government led by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), should fasten its seatbelt and holistically address the security challenges in the country, the erstwhile President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, advised on Thursday.
According to him, the spate of insecurity in the country is no longer child’s play.
Ayokunle stated this during a valedictory church service that was held in his honour in Abuja.
3. We don’t take terrorists’ threats lightly – Afenifere
The pan Yoruba socio political organisation, Afenifere has condemned the fresh attack on Owo in Ondo State by some gunmen, stating that it doesn’t take terrorists’ threats lightly.
The National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Jare Ajayi, who said this in a statement on Thursday stated that the frequent attacks by terrorists, bandits and kidnappers had shown that the President, Major General Buhammadu Buhari (retd.) was not sincere in the war against insecurity.
The group also flayed Buhari’s aides, describing them as deceitful.

President Muhammadu Buhari has again expressed serious concern over the current security challenges facing some parts of the country and will stop at nothing to change the tide.
The National Security Adviser to the President, retired Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno, said the president made his feelings known when he summoned emergency meeting of the National Security Council on Thursday in Abuja
According to him, the meeting deliberated on recent security challenges bedeviling the country and made resolutions to review existing strategies in fighting the scourge.
‘`Today’s meeting was convened by the President as a continuation of the meeting that took place last week to discuss the technical issues and the taskings that were given to the various security agencies.
5. Court judgment: I’m happy Hanifa got justice — Father
The father of late school girl, Hanifa Abubakar, Malam Abubakar Abdulsalam on Thursday said he was happy that the little Hanifa got justice.
Abubakar stated this while reacting to the court judgment sentencing the killer, Tanko Abdulmalik and his accomplice, Hashimu Ishyaku to death by hanging.
He however hailed the court’s judgment.
“I’m happy today that Hanifa, my daughter, has gotten justice.
6. CSOs express pain over school closure in Abuja
AS residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, are now at the mercy of terrorists, Civil Society Organizations, CSOs, Thursday, expressed pain over closure of both public and private schools in Abuja.
Speaking with Vanguard, the Convener, Concerned Nigerians, CN, Comrade Deji Adeyanju, said with the closure of both public and private schools in Abuja, it means terrorists are gaining upper hand with their reign of terror.
Deji said: “The terrorists are winning and the agenda is that Western education is forbidden, so if the terrorists are succeeding even without bombing the schools, government facilities and government is already shutting down the schools and closing them means a win win situation for the terrorists.

7. CSO makes case for seniority in picking new Accountant – General
Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) yesterday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to follow the public service rule in filling the vacant position of the Accountant – General of the Federation.
The group explained that the most senior director in the office should be elevated to fill the vacant post.
President of the CSGGG, Comrade Dominic Ogakwu stated this at a news conference in Abuja .
8. Gbajabiamila inaugurates ICT Centre at Birch Freeman High School
Speaker of House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila has inaugurated an ICT Centre he facilitated as his contribution to the development of education in Birch Freeman High School and for pupils in his Surulere Federal Constituency.
He inaugurated the centre as part of activities marking the Annual Homecoming of the Birch Freeman High School Boys Association, which took place at the school hall in Surulere
Gbajabiamila, who was represented at the event by the former Executive Secretary of Surulere Local Government, Mrs. Aduke Bamidele Hussein, emphasised that the Speaker was emphatic on promotion of quality education in Surulere.

9.Terrorists kill soldiers at checkpoint near Zuma rock
Terrorists attacked a military checkpoint, Thursday night, near Zuma rock in Niger State.
The location, near Madalla town, is close to Zuba, along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
The insurgents arrived at the spot some minutes after 7pm and opened fire on the troops, killing some.
A source told Daily Trust that they took control of the area for about 30 minutes.
10. Umahi suspends payment of pensions in Ebonyi, alleges fraud
Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi on Thursday alleged fraud in wage bills in the state and thereby suspended the payment of pensions to pensioners, especially retired permanent secretaries, and directors among others.
Umahi made this known while addressing journalists shortly after the executive council meeting that took place at the New Government House, Centenary City, Abakaliki, the state capital.
The governor, who spoke through the Commissioner of Information and State Orientation, Mr Uchenna Orji, expressed shock over a continued increase in the wage bills of the state.
He, however, ordered the immediate re-validation and re-verification of pensioners in Ebonyi State
